What Supplements Should You be Taking Daily?

Consumers are bombarded with so much information regarding supplements it is hard to know what to take. Here are some practical tips on buying supplements.

At Kylea, we have been providing high-quality nutritional supplements for almost fifteen years. Over the years, we have seen a lot of changes in the supplement industry. As new information becomes available, we have tried to evolve our products accordingly. We are researchers and when we discover proven evidence that a nutrient has therapeutic benefits we try to incorporate it into a new our existing product. This is one of the characteristics of our company that our customers have appreciated.

One of the most common questions we have been asked by people is what supplements should they be taking daily for overall health and wellness. Most people are struggling to process the litany of information that is being spewed out of every media venue, claiming this nutrient is critical to our continued survival as a species or this herb possesses miraculous properties that will shed years from our lives. Most people want to skip the hype and get down to the brass tacks and discover a baseline nutrition program. Kylea responded to this with our invention of the all-in-one superfood formulas -the Total Living Drink Greens and the Total Living Drink Berry.

This article is not about our products per say. It is about answering the fundamental question most people have when it comes to supplementation. What should I be taking daily to achieve higher levels of health and wellness? We refer to this as baseline nutrition.

We spent a long time researching this and gleaned wisdom from many different sources including major medical studies from unbiased institutions, medical doctors, nutritional experts, master herbalists, naturopathic medicine and more to come up with a nutritional baseline that everyone should follow. We came up with nine categories of nutrition that make up the nutritional baseline.

These are...

  1. Protein - to build lean muscle
  2. Phytonutrients from Raw Organic Produce - either dark-green, leafy vegetables or certain fruits and berries
  3. Probiotics - live, friendly bacteria that is the key to good digestive and intestinal health
  4. Digestive Enzymes - also important to digestive function. Enzymes are the worker bees of the body helping to utilize food for nutrition properly
  5. Antioxidants - critical for anti-aging, for cell protection and for enhancing the immune system
  6. Herbs - certain herbs can be taken daily that promote internal organ, blood and colon cleansing as well as for increasing energy and strengthening the immune system.
  7. Amino Acids - the building blocks of protein that also are critical for a variety of bodily functions
  8. Vitamins - critical for life and maintaining health and wellness
  9. Minerals - like vitamins, critical for life and maintaining health and wellness

I could write for hours about the options and choices people have when shopping for these nutrients. But here are a few keys that will help guard against wasting your money.

  • When buying protein, choose a 95% Whey Isolate or an Organic Brown Rice Protein (although the latter has become extremely expensive over the last few years)
  • When purchasing a vegetable or fruit based product, avoid vegetable or fruit powders. Instead look for products that use organic produce and that are also juice extracts. The juice of the plant or fruit is where the phytonutrients are found
  • Probiotics should be 10 billion live cells and should never be taken in a tablet form
  • Avoid synthetic vitamins and minerals as a general rule of thumb
  • Avoid hard compressed tablets as these contribute to poor absorption by the body
  • Be wary of nutritional supplements sold by multi-level marketing companies. There is nothing wrong with MLM however; on average more than 50% of the cost of an MLM product goes towards paying down-line commissions. So if you have an MLM product that retails for $40 for example, $20 of this is paid in commissions and that leaves $20 for all the company overhead, profit and of course cost of goods. So it is logical to assume that the company will need to manufacture less expensive products to support this type of business model
  • When possible, try and take supplements in a food-based form. This will dramatically increase the bioavailability and absorption by the body
