Studies are now showing that people who exercise are not only healthier, but people who incorporate resistance training have lower levels of triglycerides, a seemingly ever more important number on your blood tests. Studies show that people who incorporate resistance training at least three days per week for thirty minutes per day have better, total cholesterol to triglyceride ratios than those who do not. This ratio is now considered more important than your total cholesterol.
Another important ratio is the total cholesterol to HDL cholesterol. Remember, HDL is the healthy cholesterol. Simply take your total cholesterol and divide it by the HDL cholesterol. If you come up with a number below four, you are pretty well protected.
