Cinnamon:
Does it belong in your medicine cabinet or your spice rack?

CinnamonBenefits

There is more to this brown bark than you think.

Cinnamon is starting to take center stage with its health benefits. A unique blend of concentrated components called cinnamaldehyde, cinnamyl acetate and cinnamyl alcohol are what gives cinnamon its bark!

Because of these concentrated components, recent research tells us that cinnamon can reduce weight gain, control sugar intake, increase brain function and protect against heart disease. What an added benefit to sprinkling cinnamon on your morning oatmeal!

Weight Loss:

You probably didn’t know that cinnamon could actually help you lose weight. Studies show that all you need is a ½ teaspoon of cinnamon each day to reduce your LDL Cholesterol. With your cholesterol lowering, your insulin levels also reduce and that helps with losing weight. Who knew just a ½ teaspoon of cinnamon would do so much.

Blood Sugar:

Studies show that cinnamon not only can stimulate insulin receptors, but it can actually inhibit enzymes that inactivate insulin receptors. What this means to you is that it will help control your blood sugar levels. Even if you take just ¼ to ½ teaspoon a day, that can make a significant difference in helping to moderate your blood sugar levels.

Brain Power:

Dr. P. Zoladz conducted eye opening research about cinnamon and the effect it has on human brains. He discovered that just chewing cinnamon gum or smelling cinnamon could increase your cognitive processing. Not only did the cinnamon increase the cognitive process, it also increased memory, visual-motor speed and attentional processes as well.

Cancer & Heart Disease:

Cinnamon contains a blend of essential oils, dietary fiber, iron and calcium. In the body these essential oils combat bile salts, helping to reduce the risk of colon cancer and aids in the prevention of heart disease.

There are many different ways you can enjoy cinnamon with your meals, all it takes is ½ teaspoon a day. To keep fresh keep in a tightly sealed container away from light.

Recipes:

Cinnamon Toothpicks

A healthy way to freshen breath, avoid cravings and natural cigarette substitute.

Supplies: Cinnamon oil, toothpicks, cookie sheet, plastic container and a small glass jar with a lid

All you need to do to make cinnamon toothpicks is, place some cinnamon oil in a glass jar with a lid. Then, place however many toothpicks you would like in the glass jar with the cinnamon oil covering your toothpicks. Soak overnight, in the morning lay out to dry on the cookie sheet. Reseal the cinnamon oil for next time.

If you are wondering if you can change the heat of your toothpicks, you are right! Depending on how hot you would like your toothpicks to be, just soak your toothpicks a little longer in the cinnamon oil. Now, watch out for soaking the toothpicks too long, because you could end up burning your mouth.

When the toothpicks are dry, place them in a container so you can share them with your all of your friends.

What an easy way to make a healthy breath freshener!
