Almonds:
Lower Cholesterol Naturally, Reduce Metabolic Syndrome

One way to lower cholesterol naturally is with organic superfoods including almonds, nuts, hazelnuts, walnuts and nutrient-rich foods. Almonds are a superfood, and besides containing plant protein (ideal for vegetarians or vegans), the nutritional properties of almonds and other nuts is well known. Studies are now showing organic almonds and nuts can help reduce cholesterol, but perhaps more importantly they actually reduce Metabolic Syndrome. This disorder is also an important indicator for onset diabetes (Type 2), and for elevated, high risk for cardiovascular problems and heart health issues.

Metabolic Syndrome:

A control study by University of Rovira i Virgili in Reus, Spain, on Metabolic Syndrome problems used a Mediterranean diet and a supplemental diet rich in nuts. Metabolic Syndrome also is an indicator of a high risk of onset diabetes and heart health issues. One control group focused on olive oil, the other on daily intake of nuts including two tablespoons of mixed nuts (superfoods including almonds, hazelnuts and walnuts) over one year. Although there was no noticeable decrease in onset Metabolic Syndrome, the control group eating nuts daily, indicated up to a 70% reversal in Metabolic Syndrome.

The study suggests, then, that almonds and other nuts, rich in nutrients and plant proteins, may actually have health benefits in reducing metabolic disorders. One research suggestion indicates that nuts outperform olive oil. Therefore, the suggestion is if you are concentrating on a Mediterranean diet, adding a daily intake of nuts has additional benefits.

Cholesterol Reduction:

A few lifestyle changes can easily help reduce bad cholesterol levels and stabilize triglyceride levels in most people. These changes can help people avoid taking cholesterol medications, or push back the need to take such drugs.

Lifestyle changes that generally help you lower cholesterol naturally include:

  • Eating better, getting the daily nutrients you need, eating healthier with superfoods and raw, nutrient-rich organic foods including almonds, nuts, green leafy vegetables and fruits
  • Exercise – get the recommended amount of exercise weekly for your body type – if you have medical issues, consult a doctor first
  • Maintaining a healthy weight, or weight loss through a better diet, food and nutrition supplements, eating fresh foods, reducing fats, processed foods, and foods high in processed, complex sugars

Try eating almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts and other nuts as a nutritional way to lower cholesterol naturally. If you have any allergies to nuts or almonds, then consult a doctor, or find an alternative raw food or supplement.

In addition to all the other benefits attached to almonds, they also contain the precursor to Laetrile a known cancer fighter. There are two things you should know though about almonds. 1) Most almond milk is a bunch of sugar and a few almonds, whereas real almond milk, though expensive, is worth the cost and a few ounces goes a long way. 2) Try and eat only a handful of almonds a day if you are watching your weight, and eat raw, unblanched almonds.
