Cranberries:
Antioxidant Rich Foods for Cell Health, Aging, Urinary Problems & Other Health Concerns

Antioxidant rich foods including the superfood cranberries, or a diet rich in cranberry juice offer many nutritional benefits and health benefits in children, adults and the elderly. This superfood is one of the richest sources of antioxidants, so necessary for proper cell health and function, and cranberries are ideal for a healthy, nutrient-rich diet.

Short-term and long-term health benefits of cranberries include fighting children’s urinary health problems, urinary tract infections, general cell health, and as an effective agent to eliminate many harmful bacteria in the body, and even help avoid cavities.

Antioxidants and cranberries may also help reduce some of the symptoms associated with a group of disorders commonly referred to as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

Antioxidants:

Cranberries are one of the best sources of antioxidants; in fact, hardly any other fruit or vegetable can match this superfood as an antioxidant rich food. Wild blueberries, with the highest level of antioxidants, and farmed organic blueberries and cranberries are your best, natural fruit sources of antioxidants. WebMD’s nutrient profile of cranberries indicates “…one cup of whole cranberries has 8,983 total antioxidant capacity. Only blueberries can top that: Wild varieties have 13,427; cultivated blueberries have 9,019.” Cranberries are one of the most important sources of naturally occurring antioxidants. Other superfoods rich in antioxidants include apples, broccoli, cherries, raspberries, red grapes, spinach and strawberries.

Bacteria Fighter and Urinary Health:

Owing to the anti-emetic (bacteria fighting) properties of antioxidants and other compounds in cranberries and cranberry juice, cranberries can be an effective nutritional supplement relating to problems with urinary and bacterial infections of the urinary tract or bladder. Studies have shown that compounds in cranberries help reduce Bacteriuria and Pyuria (using compounds primarily in cranberry juice). Additionally, other studies have indicated that cranberry therapies are effective in reducing the risk, and treating the onset of urinary tract problems in children.

Aging and Dementia Problems:

Antioxidant rich foods are ideal for nutritious, healthy living. The multiple benefits of antioxidants including overall cell health, cell wall integrity, and proper cell functioning are central to issues related to general aging problems, and in particular cases of dementia and Alzheimer’s in older adults. A large study in the Netherlands indicates that the reduction of oxidative stress on cells (reduced by antioxidants and antioxidant rich sources of nutrition over a lifetime) may actually reduce the likelihood of developing (or reduce the progress of diseases) disorders associated with aging.

Dietary intake of beta carotene, flavonoids, vitamin C, and vitamin E and other antioxidants were the primary focus of the study. The study also suggested that a diet with high intake of vitamins C and E actually resulted in a lower population effected with Alzheimer’s disease after six years.

Reducing oxidative stress on the body and on cell health can slow the progress or reduce the risk factors of a group of disorders frequently described as senility, namely various dementias and Alzheimer’s disease.
