Segment 1 - Coffee News

Can coffee prevent cancer?

  • In 2005, Tohoku University (Japan) combined data from two large studies that assessed coffee consumption in more than 60,000 subjects.
  • Occasional coffee drinkers had 30% lower risk of liver cancer compared to those who didn't drink coffee
  • Risk was even lower for those who drank coffee daily
  • Confirms results of another Japanese study that found regular coffee consumption to be linked with a significantly reduced risk of developing a type of liver cancer known as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)
  • Reported in the International Journal of Cancer, when the Tohoku team singled out subjects who had a history of liver disease, they found a clear link between coffee intake and a lowered risk of liver cancer
  • Researchers called for further studies to examine the role that coffee might play in the prevention of liver cancer among high-risk patients

Bottom Line
  • Perhaps there are elements in coffee than can help prevent liver cancer, however; there is plenty of evidence that coffee can cause other health problems. Drink coffee in moderation.

Segment 2 - Debunking the Myth - Diet Soda

Is diet soda healthier than regular soda?

  • In the 1960's "diet soda" arrived on the scene.
  • Sweeteners like saccharin, lab created chemical sweeteners that took the place of high fructose corn syrup. It was a Nirvana for those cutting back their sugar intake (weight issues, type II diabetes)
  • To good to be true because later, lab tests showed saccharin to cause cancer and birth defects…back to high fructose corn syrup.
  • Other sweeteners like cyclamates were introduced but sadly had the same cycle, from panacea to serious illness, cyclamates were pulled off the shelf.
  • 1980’s: Aspartame. Public was guarded but eager to embrace help with the epidemic of soda pop addiction.
  • Aspartame was more widely accepted because it was "partly natural". An amino acid was bound with a chemical, and a sweetener was on the scene to save the day.
  • Tests now show aspartame is not only dangerous, causing anything from chronic headache pain to brain clusters and the like but also shown to INCREASE your appetite and INCREASE your cravings for additional sweets, so instead of being a weight loss product, is has the potential to "PUMP YOU UP” (Not good.)
  • Earlier studies link aspartame to brain tumors and cancers like leukemia and lymphoma in laboratory animals. But I've also cited research linking it to obesity, the very thing it's marketed as a drinkable panacea against!

Bottom Line

  • Stay away from Aspartame. Regular soda may actually be better for you than diet soda but that isn't saying much. If you drink regular soda, do so very moderately.

Segment 4 - Hot Dogs

"HOT DOG!" I can eat Hot Dogs

  • Gearing towards a "quick and inexpensive meal", chemicals were added to hot dogs to make them cheaper, better to look at; more perfect in texture and, have a MUCH longer shelf life. The "bad" changes were:
  • All parts of the cow were known to be used, including ears, lips, tongues and well, I think you get it
  • Sulfates, sulfites, nitrates and nitrites added for taste, stability, color, and even for things like being able to hold water, so food processors can "pump" the dog up with some real inexpensive...water...
  • The animals the hotdog's were made from were also give more drugs and chemicals to make them fatter (and with more money), quicker, and, of course cheaper to feed
  • This all resulted in dramatic negative health consequences, so the very word "hot dog" received a bad name, and today, I am here to clear that name. Why I LOVE hot dogs, and there is a way to buy them, nourishing, filling and tasty
  • HOW TO BUY HOT-DOGS:
  • Many grocery stores have a whole food section now. Look for hot dogs there
  • Make sure they have no nitrates, nitrites, sulfates or sulfites
  • Make sure they have no artificial flavors
  • Try Hot dog's that are made from chickens, turkeys or cows, that were raised free range, and given no hormones, pesticides, or antibiotics

Bottom Line

  • Do these "healthy" hot dogs cost more? A little, but much less expensive than heart surgery or chemotherapy.

Segment 5 - Healthy Habit - Water: First Thing

  • First thing one should do in the morning is drink 10-12 ounces of pure water
  • When we awake, our cells are dry from 8-10 hours of no moisture. Keep your cells lubricated and moving
  • Also, our stomach and small intestine is empty, and is a great time to flush out all the matter that is stuck to the linings of these several feet of intestine, cleaning the area and getting it ready to ABSORB NUTRIENTS
  • It will also help keep you very regular
